Synopsis
In this classic of Chinese cinema, Yuwen, a resigned housewife, lives a dreary existence with her husband Liyan and her young sister-in-law in an environment marked by routine and decay. The arrival of Zhichen, an old friend of Liyan and Yuwen's past love, disrupts that fragile balance. In this subtle melodrama, Fei Mu portrays the brief period in Chinese history between the end of World War II and the Communist Revolution.
