Synopsis
In post-war Italy, faced with the miserable situation in the country, a mother sells her 20-year-old daughter, Gelsomina, to a crude circus performer named Zampanó for 10,000 lire. Gelsomina thus becomes part of the world of travelling shows and Zampanó's life.
