The main trends in alternative cinema represented in BANDE À PART are the same as last season: first-person essays and the processing of archive materials, two formats that very often support each other to the point of forming a single protean category. If one prefers, the film essay can be regarded as the nominal category and appropriation as the working method, but whatever it is called, it continues to be one of the most fruitful forms of contemporary audiovisual practice.
