• Cine Yelmo Las Arenas will screen the whole program, Hotel Cristina by Tigotán will serve as the hospitality and meeting venue and the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium will open two of its rooms for music and cinema: its Jerónimo Saavedra Room will hold a concert based on the compositions of Lynch’s collaborator Badalamenti and performed by the Kike Perdomo-led Canarias Big Band; while its Cámara Room will host a talk with four great Spanish actors
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Thursday, April 24, 2025.- The 24th edition of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival begins tomorrow, on April 25, at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. Until its closing on May 4, the film event will show over a hundred titles and will welcome dozens of filmmakers and industry professionals, as well as actors Javier Gutiérrez, Bárbara Lennie, Carolina Yuste and Nathalie Poza, who will discuss their experiences and opinions on the film trade with journalist Carlos del Amor during the 5th Film Conferences organized by 18 Chulos.
As explained in previous news, the Festival will kick off its program on Friday morning with its Canarian section, and later, at 8:45 p.m. at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, will hold its opening ceremony that will be marked by David Lynch’s visual and sound legacy. In addition to that, the Festival will dedicate a wide retrospective to the recently deceased filmmaker while featuring intellectuals and film professionals who will delve into his work. Frederick Elmes, cinematographer of titles such as Eraserhead, Blue Velvet or Wild at Heart, will be among them.
The opening ceremony, hosted by El Gran Wyoming, will offer a musical evening dedicated to Lynch’s sound universe through a concert based on the compositions of his collaborator Angelo Badalamenti and performed by the Kike Perdomo-led Canarias Big Band, thanks to the FIMUCITÉ (Tenerife International Film Music Festival). The music be accompanied by an image composition by Canarian filmmaker Macu Machín.
The Festival, which makes daring works coexist in its program with other more accessible ones, will show over a hundred titles divided into the following sections: the Official Section, Canarias Cinema, Bande à Part, Panorama Spain, Panorama, Déjà Vu, Magic Lantern or the iconic The Freakiest Night. In addition, it will pay homage to Gene Rowlands, Gene Hackman and Donald Sutherlands with some special screenings, and will celebrate with live music the 100th anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera and Battleship Potemkin.
Cine Yelmo Las Arenas will hold screenings and activities, the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium will host meetings and press conferences, and the Hotel Cristina by Tigotán will repeat as a hospitality and meeting venue.
