HU Wei, a filmmaker and visual artist born in Beijing, lives and works between Beijing and Paris. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris and Le Fresnoy. Since 2016, he has been a professor at Beijing Normal University and became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. His award-winning films have been featured at festivals like Cannes, Venice, AFI, and Sundance and exhibited in venues such as the Palais de Tokyo and the Centre Pompidou. His short film BUTTER LAMP (2013) has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Film and Best Short Film at The European Film Awards. Currently, HU Wei is preparing his first feature film.
