Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tuesday, April 29, 2025.- The Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media CIMA will offer a space for reflection within the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival once again. Tomorrow, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, three of its members will participate in a round table focused on the role played by local film production.

Mexican producer and production manager Yadira Ávalos, who is based in Spain, and executive producer and development executive María Beltrán will delve into this topic in a talk moderated by producer Rita Vera.

According to this edition’s catalog, CIMA has decided to focus the meeting on “the importance of telling stories with roots, those that emerge from local identity and contribute to enriching the audiovisual landscape.” They will do so because, for them, cinema “defines and preserves the identity of a place and local production plays a key role in building a unique imaginary,” the text explains.

The topic will be addressed by three recognized professionals with experience in producing narratives “that resonate both locally and globally.”

Yadira Ávalos has worked in Mexico with directors such as Arturo Ripstein. In Spain she has collaborated with renowned filmmakers such as Nacho Vigalondo, Jaume Balagueró, Eduardo Casanovas or Claudia Pinto; but also with more than sixty emerging ones. Her knowledge has been demonstrated in tv series like Élite and La Unidad–in Netflix, the former, and in Movistar, the latter–. In 2021 she founded NAIF FILMS in Gran Canaria to promote new talents.

María Beltrán began working as executive producer and development executive in 2017. Since then, she has consolidated her career in both fields by working on several feature films and short films. Currently and in parallel, she is working on her first two projects as a writer and director.

Rita Vera, founder of the production company Tecamedia, will moderate and conduct the debate. Vera, who coordinated for five years the ‘Short Project’ within the Ibero-American Film Showcase (Ibértigo), has diversified her focus towards artistic management and representation in the music field.
