Emanuel is a young patient of a sanatorium on the Black Sea coast, in 1937. While trying to recover from bone tuberculosis, he falls in love with another patient. Based in the autobiographical novel by Romanian autor Max Blecher, the film depicts Emanuel’s and the rest of the patients’ attempts to experience life to the fullest, and although their bodies are slowly fading away, their minds still refuse to give up.
