Las Palmas de Gran Canaria<\/span>, <\/span>Wednesda<\/span>y<\/span><\/em>, April 24, 2024<\/em>. <\/span>The feature film On the <\/em><\/strong><\/span>Go<\/em><\/strong>, b<\/span>y<\/span> Mar\u00eda Gis\u00e8le Royo <\/span>and<\/span> Julia de Castro<\/span>, has won the Panorama Spain Award of this 23<\/span>rd<\/span> Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival. The jur<\/span>y <\/span>charged with evaluating the works competing in this section, made up of Mar\u00eda <\/span>Campa\u00f1a<\/span> Ramia, Davide <\/span>Abbatescianni<\/span> and Ana Isabel Strindberg, has announced their decision this Wednesday morning<\/span>, April 24.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the five feature films and four short films, they have<\/span>\u00a0awarded On the Go<\/em> <\/strong>because it is \u201c<\/span>a constant transit, from the material that inspires it to its final d<\/span>estination<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d Th<\/span>e three of them sa<\/span>id<\/span> that <\/span>the<\/span>y <\/span>\u201c<\/span>were struck by the uniqueness of its bizarre yet deep leading<\/span> characters, its freewheeling yet rigorous film language, and its playful but tactful approach<\/span>\u00a0to love, queerness, friendship and motherhood<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d The film, they <\/span>added<\/span>,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>delivers a rare freshness<\/span>\u00a0and audacity in terms of its acting performances,<\/span> cinematography and<\/span> editing, and embraces the viewer who embarks on a gentle yet radical journey<\/span> through the South of Spain and <\/span>the four corners of the body.<\/span>\u201d For this award, the <\/span>Festival<\/span> will grant a 5,000 prize to its filmmakers <\/span>Mar\u00eda Gis\u00e8le Royo <\/span>and<\/span> Julia de Castro<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the jur<\/span>y<\/span> has given a Special Mention to <\/span>Trenc<\/span> d’Alba<\/span> (<\/span>Crack of Dawn<\/span><\/em><\/strong>)<\/em><\/strong> (<\/span>Spain<\/span>, 2023, 28 min.) <\/span>b<\/span>y<\/span> Anna <\/span>Llargu\u00e9s<\/span>. The<\/span>y<\/span> have highlighted \u201c<\/span>the subtlety and delicacy of the mise-<\/span>en<\/span>–<\/span>sc<\/span>\u00e8<\/span>ne of a story of resistance <\/span>and preservation of the collective memory of a family.<\/span>\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding the winner, On the Go<\/em><\/strong>, <\/span>it is <\/span>Mar\u00eda Gis\u00e8le Royo <\/span>and<\/span> Julia de Castro<\/span>\u2019s first <\/span>feature,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>a <\/span>free-spirited film shot on a shoestring budget<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>b<\/span>y<\/span> its two co-directors, as Elodie Mellado, programmer of the section, stated in the catalog. In it, we follow <\/span>Milagros<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>desire to be a mother and Jonathan<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s wish to escape loneliness. <\/span>\u201cA gloriously<\/span>\u00a0queer and deliriously funny road movie that stands out for its brilliant use of 16mm<\/span>,\u201d said the <\/span>Festival<\/span> programming team when its selection was announced.
