Emotion, one of the three maxims, had a key role during the whole talk, \u201cexplaining a project with excitement is key to get the producers\u2019 support; you shouldn\u2019t read a pitch as a cooking recipe, instead tell a good story.\u201d \u00c1lvaro invited them to be unique, to find their own voices, \u201cif all of us follow the same instructions or tutorial, we\u2019d all make the same and our projects wouldn\u2019t stand out.\u201d After the workshop, MECAS Island\u2019s selected creators carried on at the Hotel Cristina by Tigotan with their personalized tutorials to work on the pitch they presented at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon started with an introduction given by Lorena Mor\u00edn, director of the Market, who welcomed all attendees and thanked all collaborators, experts, participants and the market\u2019s team for participating and thus making MECAS a success. She also thanked Luis Mirada, director of the Film Festival, for \u201cgiving me so much freedom and trusting me to create this event.\u201d Luis pointed out the important work the director of the market has done throughout her 20 years working for the Film Festival, \u201cshe\u2019s been a fundamental figure in this Festival\u2019s programming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After their interventions, MECAS\u2019 continued with the viewings of the Almost-Finished Films\u2019 four projects, which showed their current cuts to the guest experts. <em>Monta\u00f1a sin nombre<\/em>, by Jos\u00e9 V\u00edctor Fuentes and David Pantale\u00f3n, <em>Algo nuevo, algo viejo, algo prestado<\/em>, by Hern\u00e1n Rosselli, <em>La parra<\/em>, by Alberto Gracia and <em>Sed<\/em>, by Julia Solomonoff, were the first four projects presented in this section. The first day finished with the pitches of the MECAS Island\u2019s four regional projects: <em>Mi familia isle\u00f1a<\/em>, by Cristina Yurena Zerr, <em>En la calle 24<\/em>, by Alba Chaparro, <em>922-928<\/em>, by Adri\u00e1n Le\u00f3n Arocha and <em>Trans-star<\/em>, by Bibiana Monje and Ana S\u00e1nchez-Gij\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the second session will continue with the screenings and presentations of the projects selected for the Almost-Finished Films, Films-to-Be-Made and MECAS Island sections, chaired by film programmer Fran Gayo. At the same time, a retinue of guest international producers organized by the Gran Canaria Film Commission will travel around the island to get to know the landscapes, spaces and virtues Gran Canaria offers for film shootings. The visit will end with a work meeting among the thirty guest experts, that include festival curators, distributors, sales agents and producers.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, it will take place the institutional meeting with the regional, national and international retinue of producers present at the Festival, which is supported by Proexca in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Film Commission, Canary Islands Film and the Audiovisual Cluster of the Canary Islands. Likewise, the four projects that\u2019ll be shot in the Canary Islands during 2022 will be presented at the <strong>Filmar en Canarias<\/strong> [Filming in the Canary Islands] event. And finally, Felicitas Raffo will deliver the workshop <strong>EAVE Production<\/strong> in which five guest projects participate.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday morning, Miguel Machalski will teach the workshop <strong>EAVE Scriptwriting<\/strong> at the Hotel Cristina by Tigot\u00e1n. Then the MEDIA program presentation will take place. After that, the event will finish at half past noon with the awards ceremony for the 2022 Almost-Finished Films, Films-to-Be-Made and MECAS Island winners.<\/p>\n<p>The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, organized by the Culture area of the Gran-Canarian capital\u2019s City Council through Promoci\u00f3n de la Ciudad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has received public assistance by the ICAA [Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts] and the program for the internationalization of Spanish culture, PICE Visitantes, of Acci\u00f3n Cultural Espa\u00f1ola (AC\/E).<\/p>\n<p>Among the Festival\u2019s collaborators we may find Cinesa El Muelle, El Muelle Shopping Center, Hotel Cristina by Tigotan, the Elder Museum of Science and Technology or Casa \u00c1frica, places which also function as seats or hold activities; as well as other institutions and companies such as Audiovisuales Canarias, Music Library &amp; SFX or the International Bach Festival.
