The International Film Market of Almost – Finished Films, MECAS.

ABOUT MECAS

MECAS is an international final cut market essentially aimed at providing support and awards dedicated to post-production and distribution in festivals for those projects that are in advanced stages of development and that give priority to the artistic quest.
With a view to supporting filmmakers and producers who are committed to independent film, MECAS is a new platform that provides, in an intimate and close setting, meetings between experienced and up-and-coming filmmakers and producers with renowned experts and professionals from the international industry. MECAS promotes the differential value that a production acquires when it places the utmost care in the final cut.
The MECAS award for the winning project is valued at €8,000, destined to post-production or distribution in festivals.
MECAS is held by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Film Festival, in collaboration with the CLAC (Canary Island Audiovisual Cluster) and the Gran Canaria Film Commission.
MECAS, following the renowned programming of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, focuses its interest on projects that stand out on account of their creative aspects and artistic ambitions.
The event will take place the first weekend of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, from the 1st to the 3rd of April 2017.

ORGANISATION

Contenders for the MECAS Award will publically present their project before a jury made up of international experts and professionals from the industry invited by the MECAS organisation (producers, distributors, sales agents, programmers, advisers, exhibitors, etc.). In these sessions, the project team will reveal their work plan and budget to finish the film after the screening of the same. There will also be a space for a round of questions and answers, fostering constructive criticism.

Later there will be individual meeting spaces so that the contenders can prepare sessions with experts and meetings with invited investors.

AWARD

One cash prize of €8,000 will be awarded. Said sum will be destined to those concepts of post-production that were previously proposed by the participant in the enrolment of the project.

SELECTION

A board appointed by the competition will select a maximum of 9 projects.
The targets will be filmmakers and producers of all origins and ages, whose already advanced project meets the quality criteria of the project selection board meeting for such a purpose.
In addition to originality and artistic commitment, the viability of the project in terms of potential distribution in international film festivals will also be considered.
